Sangmyung University has announced the selection of 2025 first-semester non-curricular mileage scholarship recipients, offering students valuable opportunities to explore career paths while earning financial support based on their extracurricular participation. The non-curricular mileage system allows students to accumulate points through various activities outside their regular academic curriculum. These programs enable students to develop portfolios, discover their aptitudes, and receive scholarships based on their active participation. Students can check available non-curricular programs on the university website to plan their involvement strategically.

Student Participation Survey Results

To gauge current interest levels in extracurricular activities, a survey of 43 students revealed participation patterns for 2025:

- 0 activities: 5 students (12%)

- 1 activity: 11 students (26%)

- 2 activities: 10 students (23%)

- 3 activities: 6 students (14%)

- 4 activities: 2 students (5%)

- 5 or more activities: 9 students (21%)

The survey results highlight a significant awareness gap regarding the mileage scholarship system. Among students who participated once or twice, only one student cited genuine interest in non-curricular activities as their motivation, while five students specifically mentioned accumulating mileage points for scholarship purposes.

Benefits Beyond Financial Support

These non-curricular programs offer more than just scholarship opportunities. Students can explore activities aligned with their personal interests rather than being limited to their academic majors. This approach encourages sustained engagement and helps students discover new passions and potential career directions. The university emphasizes that these activities should be viewed as exciting opportunities rather than additional burdens. By participating in diverse programs, students can build comprehensive portfolios that showcase their varied skills and interests to future employers.

Looking Ahead

Based on this semester's activities and student feedback, the university plans to continue the non-curricular mileage scholarship program for the second semester. Students are encouraged to use the upcoming winter break to research available programs and prepare for the next selection process. The program ultimately serves a dual purpose: providing financial assistance to active students while helping them identify their aptitudes and career paths through practical experience in diverse fields. For more information about available non-curricular programs and application procedures, visit the Sangmyung University website.
